Selling to Middle America // BUSINESS 279, DESIGN 519

Alex Betancur and Tony Vartanian (Co-founders, Jump Ramp Games)

Thursday, July 7th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

In order to scale, businesses need to reach audiences beyond the cool tech crowd. This course will cover tactics like sweepstakes and contests, which might not seem like best bets for the digital space, but have enjoyed recent success for both online and offline campaigns. Using real examples, it will explore marketing devices that work, lessons learned offline, and how they result in conversion online. Topics include:

  • Using sweepstakes and contests (quality vs quantity, reactivation, retention)
  • Identifying the right customer
  • Presentation (compelling copy and design choices that matter)

Alex Betancur most recently led Publishers Clearing House Online Network as the GM of Digital and was responsible for building a network of winning sites from the ground up serving more than 5 million unique visitors monthly, creating new incremental revenue of $100 million including $50 million in merchandise sales. Alex was also lead development of PCH Boost, a distributed and syndicated sweepstakes network for digital publishers, companies, and social networks.

Tony Vartanian combines over 10 years of entrepreneurial experience with an in-depth technology and e-commerce background. Prior to Jump Ramp Games, he founded New York City based technology and strategic consulting firm Cordsel in 2000. Cordsel focused on the growth and launch of online businesses for both startups and multi-channel retail organizations for nearly a decade. Clients include Arthur Andersen, DC Comics, Deutsche Bank, Ernst & Young, JP Morgan Chase, Major League Baseball, Publishers Clearing House and Redcats USA.
